第8回 山中湖SUPerマラソン 2023

目次

On Sunday, June 25th, the 8th Lake Yamanaka SUPer Marathon 2023 was held at Lake Yamanaka in Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture.

Natsumi Baba will be competing from Team KOKUA.

Lake Yamanaka is one of the Fuji Five Lakes, located at the foot of Mount Fuji. The lake's surface is the third highest in Japan.

The inverted reflection of Mt. Fuji on the lake's surface and the picturesque morning and evening views are popular tourist attractions, and the area is also a popular water activity area for SUP.

The event, which is easily accessible from all over Japan, saw over 370 entries, including Dog SUP (tandem with your dog), and was bustling with dog lovers enjoying SUP.

The course is a simple one that goes around the shore of Lake Yamanaka.

The conditions were flat and windless. Just before the start, the sun came out and the lake was instantly enveloped in heat.

The rowing competition took place on a scorching hot lake, with no turns and no swells other than the wakes from jet skis and boats. The winner was determined by race structure, tactical techniques, pace distribution and stamina.

"The conditions were flat, and I expected the race to be a battle of the rowers. Unusually, there were no restrictions on drafting. It was a good opportunity to practice drafting, which is difficult for women to do on their own, but I regret that I should have always conserved my energy by drafting, moved closer to the front, and continued to draft. I ended up spending too much time riding alone, which caused me to tire out in the second half. My challenges include not only drafting directly behind, but also mastering drafting directly beside the other riders, which is not within the penalty range, practicing not to tire out in the second half, building up my stamina, and improving my form."

The rainy season will soon be over and signs of summer are just around the corner.

As the temperature rises, the number of competitions will increase, and the excitement will grow. Which races will Team KOKUA/Generation Next win this summer? We look forward to seeing them do well in various locations.
